Should We Compare the Amount of Donations?
    2008-05-27 19:16:37     CRIENGLISH.com

Two weeks after the 8.0 quake, over 10 billion Yuan in donations have been received locally and abroad. It is a large sum, but it is still far less than the estimated rebuilding funds of 100 billion Yuan. Recently, how much affluent entrepreneurs are donating has come into the spotlight.

An online opinion in Xinhuanet says, it is the social responsibility of celebrities and entrepreneurs to donate at this critical moment. The public is supervising what they have done for the victims. Logically, people would like to support those enterprises that are socially responsible. The donation chart helps the public to identify who they are.

An opinion in Zhujiang Evening News says that the comparison and criticism on donations have indeed sparked more kind acts. For example, being toughly criticized for having donated less than 0.0001 percent of its profit, the Chairman of Vanke, Wang Shi, donated 50 times more afterwards. The writer believes, with a donation chart, it's likely the rich donate more. The result of more funds received is that more victims will benefit.

An opinion in Guangzhou Daily quotes a line in Spiderman 3 saying "with great power, comes great responsibility". Top local enterprises have no excuses in performing their social responsibility to help the victims. It is not expenditure, but actually like making a profit because the company's image gets better and the company's culture get promoted.

An opinion in Yangtze Evening News believes that celebrities and famous athletes have already offered their help and expressed their condolences from wherever they are. It is expected that people will discuss and compare the amount they have donated. However, we cannot deny their love and devotion to the victims no matter how much they've donated. Probably, when we question those who donated less, we should first ask ourselves: How much I have donated?
