University Graduates Start from Working as Foot Masseur
    2007-04-20 19:55:14     CRIENGLISH.com

According to Beijing Morning Post, a recruitment of a bathing house in the city has attracted around 5000 university graduates. They are willing to start from working as foot masseur or assistance helping customers taking bath.

Let's follow Wang Jing to see how the public media look at the matter.

Reporter:

One Red Net article shows relief in students' changed attitude toward job hunting, saying they are more willing to start from a lower position. Nevertheless, it doubts whether the students can do those jobs well. The work requires lots of physical strength. It also asks for patience and tolerance in communicating with customers and meeting their demands. They also need to learn to take advantage of their education in the work. In all, they will expect many hardships, but they must overcome them in order to succeed.

One opinion from the People Daily website views this negatively. It says it's been resulted from the expanded university enrolment. There's been more supply than demand in the job market. It's out of pressure for students to choose such a job.

Besides, university education is expensive for an ordinary family. The cost is certainly not paid back by such a job. The writer signs it's also a waste of money and human resources for the country. Such a reality doesn't conform to the goal of high education.

What's worse, it shows a devaluation of university education, therefore, will hurt students' self-respect badly.

Contrarily, another opinion from the same website says people have showed prejudice against such professions. However, it's a rational choice when the competition is so strong. Furthermore, everyone deserves the respect if they make money based on their hardworking and wisdom.

The opinion also sees positively the company has provided a good chance for students to get social experience. They can benefit from overcoming hardships, and holding right attitudes to finding jobs. Unrealistic expectations have only made many students unemployed at home. Companies can also discover the kind of person they need through the basic work. Anyway, it's a win-win situation.
