The spoilsport owner of a restaurant in Taiwan has put up a notice banning South Koreans from dining there to protest Taiwan's losses in basketball and taekwondo to South Korea in the Asian and East Asian Games.
Tu Shengxia claims South Korea only won by cheating. "South Korean basketball players always play little tricks and Taiwan lost the taekwondo match because the Korean competitor fouled him."
He said many South Koreans have eaten at his place over the last seven years due to a nearby railway project they are working on, but added that he has no idea how many are eating there now and have remained silent.
"I saw one (Korean) regular who read the notice but came in anyway and ate quickly without saying anything. Otherwise, if they don't mention their nationality or speak with a foreign accent, I can't tell."

A Sicilian man stole sweets and a packet of chewing gum so he could get arrested and spend New Year's Eve in a jail cell rather than be with his wife and relatives, Italian media have reported.
The 35-year-old Sicilian first showed up at a police station Thursday asking to be arrested because he preferred spending the night in prison rather than with his family.
But police rebuffed him because he had not committed a crime, the Agi news agency said.
The man immediately went to a tobacco shop next door, where he threatened the owner with a box cutter as he grabbed a few sweets and a packet of gum.
He then waited until police arrived to arrest him for robbery, the news agency said.

A dating website for "beautiful people" says it has booted off 5,000 members for piling on the pounds over Christmas.
BeautifulPeople.com says it acted after users posted photos of themselves celebrating Christmas and the New Year - revealing they had "let themselves go".
"We responded to complaints by moving the newly chubby members back to the rating stage. This is the same as having them re-apply," said Greg Hodge, the managing director.
"Their re-applications were reviewed by existing members and only a few hundred were voted back in. Over 5,000 were rejected."
The social networking site, which boasts 550,000 members worldwide, allows its members to decide on who should be allowed to join.
Mr Hodge said: "Every year we see that some of our members eat and drink to excess over the holidays and clearly their looks suffer," he said.
"The USA has been grossly over-indulging since Thanksgiving - it's no wonder that so many members from that country have been expelled from the network. We hope they will be back after shedding the festive pounds.

An alleged robber's disguise ¨C woman's panties ¨C wasn't enough to keep witnesses from identifying him, leading to an arrest by Indiana police in the U.S., officials said.
A man brandishing a large knife and covering his face with underwear robbed a convenience store in Franklin, Indiana. He made off with cash, cigarettes and a lighter, a local media outlet reported.
Despite the disguise, both a customer and the station clerk were able to give police a description of the robber detailed enough to lead police to set up surveillance around a local home.
Officers spotted Larry Bernard stumbling and intoxicated with a 12-inch knife in his waistband. Panties, cash, cigarettes and a lighter matching the stolen one were found in his pockets, police said. |
