A penniless 70-year-old woman who found 7,000 yuan (just over $1,000 US dollars) while scrounging for discarded items to use or sell in Huangshi, Hubei Province had cops wiping tears away after she handed the money over and then asked to borrow 1 yuan for breakfast.

Police said the woman found the money at about 7am bundled in a plastic bag in a roadside gutter.

"The owner must be very worried," she told police as they counted it. After it was totaled and recorded by 9 am, Guo said, "Officer, I haven't had breakfast. Can you lend me one yuan to buy two buns?"

They tried to give her more and said they had tears in their eyes when she replied, "I just need one yuan for two buns. You must find the money's owner as soon as possible to return it." Then she left the station.

In a bizarre display of his kissing prowess, a young man surnamed Liu hugged and kissed a life size inflatable sex doll on a subway in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province earlier this month.

Security guards had to break up crowds who gathered to watch him fondle the doll while "practicing for a kissing contest" that he said was scheduled for later this month.

He told onlookers his girlfriend hadn't accepted his invitation to lock lips in the contest and he hoped he could win her over with his public display of affection with the doll.

Prosecutors in Kerrville, Texas will review the case of a woman authorities claim has called 911 30 times over six months for non-emergency reasons, including a call to complain that her husband refused to eat his dinner.

On December 18, the woman allegedly made two calls to 911, including a hang-up and another where a woman was heard screaming.

Police were dispatched to the residence and officer Paul Gonzales said police were told by her that "her husband did not want to eat his supper."

A police report says the 53-year-old woman was also yelling "about things that happened two weeks ago."

The woman now faces charges of 911 abuse.

When Ken Morrish, 72, of Devon, England picked an apple off a tree in his garden, he thought a prankster had painted half of it red. But after inspecting it closely he realized that the remarkable split green and red colors on the fruit were a natural occurance.

The bizarre apple has turned Morrish into something of a celebrity in his village with scores of neighbors lining up to take photos of it. Experts say that the odds of finding an apple with such a perfect line between green and red are more than 1 million to one.

Morrish says he has no plans to eat it. Instead, he has stored it in his fridge so villagers can continue to come round and take a look.

Horticulturists said the colorings are probably caused by a random genetic mutation. In such cases, the red side usually tastes sweeter than the green side because it has seen more sunshine during its growth.
