A retired teacher was seriously injured when he put his hand inside a tiger's cage to touch the animal at a circus in Nankang, Jiangxi province, recently.

Zhu, 61, said he wanted to touch the tiger's hair when the animal grabbed his hand and bit off four of his fingers.

Zhu fainted on the spot.

Circus officials paid Zhu 3,500 yuan as compensation for his fingers.
