Pakistan has reopened the main supply route for American and other NATO troops in Afghanistan after blocking it for three days during an operation against militants. The militants are blamed for repeated attacks on convoys in the Khyber Pass.
On Saturday, trucks laden with NATO containers began passing through a checkpoint at Khyber. Islam ud din is one of the drivers.
"Now the operation is complete. None of the militants can harm us if the NATO forces convoy is with us, so we have no fear now."
The United States plans to deploy up to 30,000 additional troops to landlocked Afghanistan this year, further increasing the importance of secure supply routes through Pakistan. Up to 75 percent of the fuel, food and other goods used by western forces passes through these routes.
Militants have stepped up attacks against convoys passing through Khyber in recent months. They also have ransacked terminals in the nearby city of Peshawar, holding supplies intended for the Afghan army.
