The Marriott Hotel in Islamabad partially has re-opened for business after a massive suicide truck bombing devastated the building and killed more than 50 people three months ago.
Guests at Sunday's re-opening ceremony included the United States and Saudi Arabian Ambassadors to Pakistan, both of whom lit candles at a memorial to those who died in the attack. Saddaruddin Hashawani is the hotel owner.
"Security of Islamabad Marriott is difficult to match anywhere in the world"
To guard against a future assault, the hotel has constructed a 4-metre bombproof wall and installed additional security cameras, reinforced glass and a new alarm system.
There will be no parking in front of the hotel as before the bombing. Even vehicles ferrying VIPs to the Marriott will have to deposit guests at the front gate and drive on.
The hotel's three restaurants were up and running, and 70 rooms will be available from January 1 2009.
Syed Ali Hassan is a restaurant patron.
"I feel pretty secure because they have got like state of art technology for our security and everything"
Several foreigners, including at least three Americans and the Czech ambassador were killed in the attack.
Pakistan has arrested three people allegedly connected to the truck bombing, but no one has been formally charged.
