China is working to enhance international cooperation in developing an AIDS vaccine. Our reporter Dan Dan has the details.
Reporter: At present, more than ten research groups in China are studying a possible AIDS vaccine, some of the groups have reached an international advanced level.
Shao Yiming, an expert with China's National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, says next year, China will integrate its current AIDS vaccine study centers to better cooperate with their foreign counterparts.
"Our international cooperation used to be conducted between one single study center and another. Now we hope to see more cooperation in AIDS vaccine research at national level. We believe it will facilitate our experts' communication and exchanges with their foreign counterparts."
Experts worldwide have been studying AIDS vaccination for more than 20 years but an effective vaccine has not yet been developed.
Shao Yiming says an AIDS vaccine developed by his team has just completed initial clinical trials with 'good results'.
"According to our estimation, the vaccine is able to pass the first phase of the government's clinical evaluation. We will start the second clinical trial next year or the year after next."
