On Zhang Haidi's Election as New Chairperson of CDPF
    2008-11-15 11:17:10     CRIENGLISH.com

Writer Zhang Haidi, who is familiar to thousands of Chinese households, has been elected the new chairperson of the China Disabled Persons' Federation.

Her election, however, came as a surprise to many people and aroused public interest.

Zhang Haidi has been a national legend for more than 25 years, inspiring a whole generation with her courage and determination by living a fruitful and fulfilling life despite her disability.

The Beijing News published an article, saying that Zhang's personal success brought care for the disabled into the spotlight, but still, not every disabled person can enjoy equal care. Therefore, as the chairperson of the federation, Zhang Haidi needs to devote herself to promoting the rights of the disabled and improving their access to public facilities.

The article points out that the legend of an individual cannot be repeated or passed on, but the merits of a system can. The writer hopes that Zhang Haidi will be able to overcome the difficulties to contribute to the systematic establishment of the rights of the disabled in China.
