In this edition:

Fresh fighting in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has disturbed a fragile ceasefire reached just a week ago.

Small island countries discuss climate change in Singapore.

And the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN has signed three agreements that will lead to the full liberalization of freight and other air services in the region.

Stay tuned.

Fresh fighting in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has disturbed a fragile ceasefire barely a week old.

Rebels loyal to General Laurent Nkunda have clashed with government forces, and taken control of the city of Nyanzale, some 80 kilometers north of the regional capital Goma.

The fighting comes as Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito, in Goma said he was ready to talk directly with the rebels and on the eve of a UN-backed summit to try and resolve the conflict in the DRC.

UN radio's Derrick Mbatha asked Madnoje Mounoubai, spokesperson for the UN Mission, MONUC, about the new fighting.

Back anchor: That was UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha talking to Madnoje Mounoubai, spokesperson for the UN Mission, MONUC, about the new fighting in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Now let's take a look at other news in the developing world.

The Alliance of Small Island States has concluded a meeting in Singapore, calling for the developed countries to take the lead in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The meeting allowed about 100 delegates from 41 members which are small, low-lying island developing countries to coordinate and agree on common positions on climate change.

The four-day meeting was a preparatory one for the forthcoming 14th Conference of the Parties of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change in Poznan, Poland in December.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN has signed three agreements that will lead to the full liberalization of freight and other air services in the region.

The pacts were signed by the ASEAN transport chiefs at the 14th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting.

The agreement will also contribute to the creation of a transport network linking the 10 member-states which seek to build a unified aviation market by 2015.

Officials said air travel liberalization will not be a complete "open-sky" policy even as regional member countries shall commit to increase flight frequencies in the region within a certain timeline.
