One of China's leading websites, "China.com", has reported that an Indian broker in Mumbai killed his pregnant wife and then committed suicide. The website says it's India's fourth suicide to be triggered by the global financial crisis in the past ten days.
A commentary in the 'Beijing Youth Daily' says the incidents in India provide other countries with a clear message to pay attention to the mental states of their citizen's amid the current world financial meltdown.
The article notes that the global economic storm has caused many people to loose their jobs or fall into bankruptcy. As a result, many are becoming depressed and desperate. Unfortunately, committing murder and suicide seems to be a way out for some.
In response, the newspaper points out that psychological intervention is urgently needed to help some people weather the mental strain caused by the global financial crisis.
It says psychologists should offer to assist those suffering from depression and help them refocus on the value of life.
Moreover, the newspaper says the general public should retain confidence in coping with the economic crisis.
It stresses that governments have a key role to play in this regard. In a bid to get through the economic crisis, the article suggests that governments around the world should pay close attention to the security of their citizens, as well as to economic bailout measures.
