Hello, and welcome to this edition of China Beat on China Radio International. This is Zhong Qiu.
Rex or Yu SiyuanÓá˼Զ made an impression on the Mando-pop scene with his passionate music on My Show, one of China's top music competitions and became an icon for the younger generation. After that, Rex stepped into the music circle with his band, B.I.Z, and released their debut album, "Sing for Love," which has been met with praise. After 2 years' preparation, the band just released their second album, "Together Forever." In today's program, we will follow the band members and find out the stories behind this album, "Together Forever."
The title track, "Together Forever," is a soft rock song. Besides its youthful and energetic melody, the lyrics of this song are also very encouraging. It goes like this: no matter what happens in the future, with your passion and my music, we will be together and create our own miracle. The guitarist, Li Junjun, says this song is dedicated to all Chinese people for their courage in 2008.¡¡
"Through this song, we want to encourage all the Chinese people and our country. We have experienced a lot this year, both happy and unhappy things. We believe that as long as we unite, we can beat all the odds and realize our dream."
B.I.Z also expresses their pride of being Chinese in the second track, "Come on Chinese People," a remake of star Andy Lau's well-known song, Chinese. Junjun says they took the refrain from the original song, but rearranged the melody.¡¡
"We made the song with more of our characteristics, mainly with rapping and rock. We rewrote the lyrics, adding our understanding of being a young Chinese. There's a sentence in the song -- you ask me where I am from, I'm from China. It's more like an interaction which repeats and repeats, promoting an emotional climax."
Love Wildly in another track on the album that includes rapping. Inspired by a personal experience, vocalist Rex composed the melody and wrote the lyrics. His vocal presentation varies from very soft and emotional in the beginning to strong and powerful in the refrain.
"This song tells about the process of a break-up. It also has a rap part like a voiceover to describe the feeling that, although I'm not with you anymore, I still love you deeply and wildly. Rap has always been an element that we want to try in our music because we all love it very much."
Other band members have also contributed their works on this album. One such work is the song, "Have a "Him" in Mind," which is composed by the drummer Zhong Xun. He says this song is dedicated to those who failed in a relationship.
"There are a lot of songs dedicated to happy lovers. However, I think we should also pay attention to those who can't find love for certain reasons, like age or sexual orientation."
"Have a Him in Mind" is also the favorite song of bassist Chen Xiangqian. The lyrics go like this: who cares about my understanding of love, who can decide whether I'm right or wrong? Xiangqian says the song is a wish that those who are overlooked by the majority can also find their true loves.
"Through this song, we want to encourage those people to pursue true love bravely, despite what other people say."
Guitarist Junjun composed four songs, but his favorite is Give You Free, Leave Me Memory.
"Most songs in this album express our feelings in a straightforward manner, but we try to vary them in melody, musical arrangement or vocal presentation. In this song, the vocal transition in the high notes is very unique on this album."
From these songs, we can sense that the band has gained maturity both in their minds and their music. They've expressed their feelings in love, incorporated different musical elements and tried to perfect the presentation. With their hard work and passion for music, we expect more wonderful works from this young band, B.I.Z. And at the end of this edition of China Beat, we will bring you another expressive song off this album, To Chase Desperately. This is Zhong Qiu. Bye for now.
