  • US Bailout Plan Approved
  • China has the muscle to push short-term domestic growth, but Japan and South Korea will continue to grapple with difficulties in trying to kick their sluggish economic engines into higher gear.
  • Retailers in Beijing benefited from a holiday shopping spree on the first day of the week-long National Day holiday. Sales totals reached 480 million yuan, a 32.1 percent jump from the same day last year.
  • The 2008 China International Exhibition on Housing will open at the end of October at the China World Trade Center. In order to motivate the overcast housing market, wholesale properties will be the highlight of the event.

Tsinghua University has been the center of debate lately, following reports that students in an experimental class on liberal arts and social sciences is required to study the Four Books, which were basic reading for all people of letters in Old China. In recent years, the surge of interest in traditional Chinese studies has been controversial, with people holding widely divergent views on the national enthusiasm for the traditional masterpieces. Media opinions also differ.
