    2008-07-16 14:06:39     CRIENGLISH.com

Olympic volunteers in China's host cities of Qingdao and Hong Kong are undertaking intensive training for the upcoming Games.

Chen Xiaohu is the team leader of 160 marine volunteers in Qingdao. The city will host sailing events.

"After two years of training, the qualified volunteers for the sailing events are all the elites for marine sports. But many of them felt sick on the boats during the initial period and they had to train for 12 hours everyday."

In Hong Kong, sports authorities say that the 240 local volunteers for the equestrian events are ready to serve riders from around the world.

They have also received training in transportation, accommodation, tourism, first aid and driving.

For the upcoming grand sports gathering, Beijing will host 100,000 volunteers during the Olympics and Paralympics.

Nearly 1,000 foreign volunteers have been picked from 22,000 applicants abroad. They are currently serving for the international press.
