Japanese Police Arrests Suspect after Seven Killed in Stabbing Spree
    2008-06-09 10:27:36     CRIENGLISH.com

Seven people died and 11 others were wounded Sunday after a man struck passersby with a small truck and stabbed them with a knife in Tokyo's Akihabara area.

The 18 victims were all taken to hospital after the stabbing attack, and seven died while undergoing emergency treatment.
An eyewitness has described the scene.

"I saw a man wearing a beige suit and I thought he was just pushing people as he ran. But, he was indeed stabbing people. Then he ran off in that direction."

The incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. local time, and 25-year-old Tomohiro Kato, a resident from Shizuoka Prefecture, was arrested near the scene.

Kato was quoted as telling the police that he came to Akihabara to kill people.

He said that as he was tired of the world, he would kill whoever was around there.

Akihabara is an electronics and video game area wildly popular among the country's cyber-wise youth.
