Cyclists in Mexico Celebrates World Naked Bike Ride
    2008-06-09 10:24:28     CRIENGLISH.com

About 200 cyclists have gathered in Mexico City to celebrate the annual World Naked Bike Ride.
Many of the cyclists painted decorations or slogans on their naked or partially-naked bodies, including "Don't contaminate" and "Today I am not invisible."

The protest ride went along the large Reforma Avenue to the city's main square, the Zocalo.

The event aims at exposing cycling's positive effects on the environment and raising awareness of the dangers cyclists face from reckless drivers.

Juan, an environmentalist, explains why he is taking part.

"In Mexico City, it's almost impossible to ride your bike. It's very dangerous, in fact. Many of the people here have been hit.

We're also trying to get people to be a little more conscious of the effects of fossil fuels, and to make this a livable city for a cyclist."

Organizers say the ride will take place in 132 cities worldwide this year and is regarded as a celebration as well as a protest.
