Today is meant to be a day to raise awareness of mother earth. Since it was first launched in the United States in 1970, April 22nd has since become a day in which millions upon millions of people who are environmentally conscious do their part to help educate people about things such as pollution, environmental degradation, government policy and so on. And with the Olympic Games coming here to Beijing this summer, environmental considerations are one of the top priority for the Chinese government as it prepares to host the 'green Olympics.' So just how well is China doing when it comes to the environment ahead of the Games? And what is happening right now when it comes to global warming from a scientific point of view? Ni hao, you're listening to People In the Know, your window into the world around you, online at www.crienglish.com here on China Radio International. In this edition of the show, we'll be talking about World Earth Day. So let's get started.
First, we're going to be discussing the environment from a scientific point of view. For this we're joined on the line by Professor Wyss Yim with the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Hong Kong.
(Dialogue with Yim)
And after a quick break, we'll come back and talk with the UN Environment Programme about the environment and the Olympics.
