Forbes China magazine held a charity awards event on April 18 in Beijing to recognize outstanding celebrities and organizations in 2007 and raise money for a national Red Cross program.

Many renowned people from the entertainment industry, including mainland actor Deng Chao, singer Zhang Liangying and actress Huang Shengyi, attended the red carpet ceremony.

With the theme "Sky Love," the Forbes China Charity Gala 2008 issued 12 awards, including Most Outstanding Enterprise, Celebrity of the Year, Compassion Angel and the Media's Favorite Celebrity.

Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV Production, Polybona, and Chengtian Entertainment received awards for the "Most Outstanding Enterprise."

Chinese TV hostess Li Xiang, actress Jiang Qinqin, pianist Li Yundi, and Twelve Girls Band were selected as the "Celebrities of the Year."

Deng Chao and Zhang Liangying won awards for the "Male and Female Entertainers with the Most Attention from the Media."

Many other celebrities, including actress Huang Sheng Yi, '80s-generation writer Guo Jingming and popular TV soccer commentator Huang Jianxiang also won awards at the gala.

Besides the awards ceremony, the gala also held a charity auction to benefit the China Red Cross Foundation. The event raised about 569,000 yuan, or roughly 81,000 US dollars, for the Red Cross Angel Program, a social welfare project that aims to protect the lives and improve the health of rural peasants and children.
