The 16th Diving World Cup was opened Tuesday in the National Aquatics Center, or more commonly known as the "Water Cube". Chinese diving pair Qin Kai and Wang Feng grabbed the first gold medal in the synchronized three-meter springboard diving on the first day of the game. Our reporter Shuang Feng finds out more from the venue.

Reporter:

"Representing China, Wang Feng, Qin Kai, 201b."

Whenever they step on the springboard, they are sure to hear loud hurrahs and applause.

Qin Kai is happy with their victory.

"Generally speaking, we are doing well today. But there is still room for improvement in some details. We are confident about winning a gold medal during the Olympics, but we need to focus on what we are doing now."

Russian legend diver Dmitry Sautin finished second along his young partner Yuriy Kunakov.

"It's not bad. But we made a serious mistake. I think we need to work harder."

Besides watching the diving, many spectators are also entering the water cube for the first time. Some have brought their children.

"It's creative. The framework, the lights are both very nice. And it's very big too."

"Just like what we saw on the TV, it's very beautiful, and multi-functional. I can see equipment inside is internationalized. My nephew is also here for the first time. I think it's a good educational chance, also very encouraging for him."

In addition, the water cube has also attracted many foreign spectators. Teresa Sage is from the United Kingdom. Her daughter is a diver.

"In a way I think it looks more bubbly inside than from outside. We have five families coming out to support. All have children diving. UK... hopefully we will get into the Olympics. If we do, I will come back."

More competition will be seen in the water cube this week, including both men's and women's synchronized platform diving.

The Diving World Cup will wrap up this Sunday.
