More on "Voices from Other Lands"

Ciro Orsini is the man behind the popular global chain of Ciro¡¯s Pomodoro restaurants. A native of Naples, Italy, this restaurateur began his training in the business of food at the early age of 12.The first Ciro¡¯s opened in London in the late 70s and over the past 3 decades, there are now locations all over the world, extending from North America to the Middle East. Ciro¡¯s has recently opened its doors on Beijing¡¯s Sanlitun Bar Street and Orsini attended the grand opening party.

Along the walls of the Beijing location, like all other Ciro¡¯s, are pictures that the owner has taken over the years with famous celebrities including Sylvester Stallone, Ronald Reagan, and close friend Pat Morita, the man who plays Mr. Miyagi from the film The Karate Kid. A man constantly on the move between his restaurants all over the world, I started off my interview with Ciro Orsini by asking him what it means to him to open in Beijing.
