Visiting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says the Beijing Olympics is going to be one of the greatest Games ever.
Brown made the remark when he took a tour of China's National Stadium, the capital's main Olympic venue on Saturday.
''Millions of people will be watching this scene, a great city, a huge project by the people of Beijing, a great contribution by China to world's peace and prosperity. I am looking forward to being here at the Games in August, and again congratulate China its achievement.''
Brown also said he wished to see more cooperation between China and Britain in the training of athletes. He added the more young people from Britain who can travel to China, the more the Olympic spirit will transfer itself from Beijing to London in the future. London will host the Summer Games in 2012.
Kelly Holmes, a British middle-distance runner who won two gold medals at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, accompanied Brown on his visit. She said the national stadium is a place where athletes from around the world could enjoy competing.
''The spectacle here is going to be amazing, I think people are going to be here just for the event and to achieve their own dreams. ''
Later on Saturday, Brown traveled to Shanghai, where he held talks with local officials about joint programs between China and the UK.
He then viewed plans for an environmentally friendly town, being built on the island of Chongming of Shanghai.
Scheduled to open in 2010, the eco-city will reportedly house a population of 500-thousand people and will only allow vehicles powered by electricity or hydrogen.
