"You will notice that women's pursuit of love and material life is almost as same as it was 150 years ago," said Lin Yihua, a famous director from Hong Kong.
A drama about women, made in Hong Kong, "Madame Bovary Is Me" came to Beijing again under the invitation of enthusiastic fans.
Featuring twelve beauties, 100 suits of international brand costumes, 180 minutes of sizzling performances, famous drama player and critic Jiao Huang comments that "Madame Bovary Is Me" is "a crack-a-jack production among dramas."
Lin Yihua describes "Madame Bovary."
"Madam Bovary is a very famous book, so I think many people are already familiar with the story. It's about a woman, Emma, who was so unhappy with her husband, her marriage, and even her life, that she could have killed herself. In order to overcome her depression, she tried to escape reality by committing adultery and going on a spending spree. At the end, she bought so many things that she couldn't pay the bills. She couldn't face the situation, and ended up killing herself."

While Lin Yihua was chatting with a well-known entertainment star, Michele Lee, "Madame Bovary" suddenly came to mind. He thought the emphasis on vanity, and the ambition to climb higher exist in every era, so decided to put it on the stage.
"It's a tragic story. Tragedies occur every day, just like the ideas of Madame Bovary exist among us now, not just in situations that happened 150 years ago. The reason why I wanted to adapt this novel into a stage play, is that it's like a mirror. Madame Bovary's actions can inspire a lot of questions that we may not ask ourselves every day, like who we are, what we want, what we need, or what's the difference between want and need? Why do we desperately want to become somebody else? And how do media influence us?"
