The World Economic Forum finally comes to China. How is it different from the one held in Davos? Google is speeding up expansion on the mainland amid rows with local rivals. Will its new strategy help the company gain a stronger foothold against its major contender Baidu.com?
Hello and welcome to Biz China. I'm Tu Yun in Beijing. The northeastern coastal city of Dalian has become the first Chinese city to host the summer meeting of the World Economic Forum, also known as Summer Davos. Later in the show, Miles Young, Chairman of advertising giant Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, will join us to talk about his impression about the meeting among other issues. But first, we take a close look at the forum with our reporter OUYANG Qian.
Online search engine Google is gearing up its business expansion on the mainland, signing deals with big Chinese internet companies one after another in an attempt to increase its share on a market long dominated by rival Baidu.com. Our reporter Wu Jia finds out whether Google's new strategy can help the online giant reverse the battle where many international powerhouses, such as Yahoo and Ebay, have lost territory.
Before we wrap up this week's Biz China, here is a brief new review.
With that, we wrap up this week's Biz China. Send your comments, suggestions and anything to say about the show to crieng@crifm.com. From Beijing, this is Tu Yun saying thank you for being with us. Until next week, take care!
