It used to be that if you wanted to make new friends, you'd join a club, hit the bars or meet people through the friends you already have. But now, people are opting out of all that time consuming face-to-face interaction, instead using social networking sites like Facebook, Friendster and Myspace. There are over 200 million registered users worldwide on Myspace alone, where people can share music, photos, videos, without ever having to leave the comfort and privacy of the computer. In China, there are already over 100 social networking sites.
A few weeks ago, Myspace officially joined China's online community by launching Myspace.cn on September 20th. Out of a total of 16 Myspace country sites, China's is the only site that is locally owned, operated and managed. CEO of Myspace China is Luo Chuan, previously the Deputy General Manager of Microsoft China. I caught up with Luo Chuan this week to talk about how websites like Myspace has changed the way people interact with each other and his plans for Myspace in China. www.myspace.cn/chuan
