1900 Paris

Today we will look at the worst-organized Olympic Games - the 1900 Paris Games.

France is the home country of Pierre de Coubertin -the first president of International Olympic Committee. However, because the French government took over the organizing and combined the Games with the World Expo, the 2nd Olympic Games turned out to be quite a disappointment.

Because the Olympic Games were made part of the World Expo, no opening or closing ceremony was held. Due to poor organization, the Games lasted from May to October. The 5-month-long Games were later called "Marathonian Olympics." Meanwhile, scheduling conflicts were so great that many contestants never made it to their events.

Though Paris Olympics turned out to be the worst organized Games in Olympic History, one thing worth mentioning is that women took part in the competition for the first time, and Charlotte Cooper became the first female Olympic champion
