From today we will begin a review of previous Olympic Games.
Greece is known as the original home of the Olympic Games, and it was unanimously given the right to host the first modern Olympics in 1896 by the International Olympic Committee.
During the Games, Athenian people expressed their strong passion towards the event. Over 80 thousand Athenians attended the opening ceremony, despite the population of Athens been only 130 thousand at the time. The number of opening ceremony attendance wasn't surpassed until the 1932 Los Angeles Games.
Since the first Olympic Games were not widely publicised internationally, athletes were not chosen by their country, but rather came individually, and at their own expense. In fact, some of the contestants were merely tourists who happened to be in the area at the time!
The first Olympic Games include ten disciplines and approximately three hundred athletes, representing thirteen countries.
