While some people are expecting the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be the one with the most advanced facilities in history, some are also calling for a cultural Olympics.
The Beijing News carries a story, saying that modern venues and other facilities are important to the success of the games, but we also need our heritage and the traditional culture.
The paper cites the Athens Olympics as an example, saying that the games might be the thriftiest in the Olympic history, with many ball games held in modified warehouses and swimming competitions held in temporary outdoor swimming pools. But the spectators were wowed by the city's cultural relics and indulged in ancient Greek legends and thoughts of ancient Greek thinkers.
The paper says that China should not miss the opportunity to demonstrate the long and rich Chinese culture through the 2008 Olympics, such as Chinese festivals with abundant cultural elements.
