Could Group Dance Lead to Premature Love?

As part of a health drive, China's Education Ministry has encouraged primary and secondary school students to begin group dancing as of the new semester the coming September.

Shanghai Daily quotes the ministry as saying that seven sets of group dances have been designed to "suit the physical and psychological characteristics of students at different ages".

The new program, however, has aroused many concerns these days over whether group dancing could lead to early love affairs among school pupils.

The Education Ministry says that such concerns are redundant. They've done large scale surveys to guarantee the science and the feasibility of such group dances.

Four students will be in a group as they dance and their partners will not be fixed. After all, the ministry said, early love affairs could happen even without group dancing.

The new initiative comes against the backdrop of an increasing lack of physical activity among youngsters, mainly because of a heavy homework load.

A recent nation-wide survey indicates that teenagers' physical indices, such as strength and speed, have been declining. At the same time, obesity has been on the rise.
