Saturday was not a day of upsets as the most in-form seeds in women's singles bottom half were all through at French Open third round.
Crowd favorite Mauresmo was made to battle hard for her place in the third round, requiring three sets to overcome compatriot and friend Nathalie Dechy and her loyal band of supporters inside the Philippe Chatrier court expected the 27-year-old would have an easier time against world number 29 Lucie Safarova.
However, the Czech starlet, who has had a wonderful season so far and ended Mauresmo's reign as Australian Open champion in January, showed her battling qualities and powerful ground strokes before sending Mauresmo home 6-3, 7-6.
