Got a whole shock of b-balling news here for you, as Bryan Colangelo of the Toronto Raptors was honoured Monday as NBA executive of the year after orchestrating Toronto's turnaround this season from Eastern Conference also-ran to contender. But far from basking in the spotlight, the GM spoke about all the hard work ahead.
''The key is that when we leave this building officially, when the players all go their separate ways, that nobody relaxes,'' Colangelo says. ''One way we're going to get better is from within, we have to all take this taste of success and not get comfortable with it, but let's savour it and let's find a way to make it even sweeter next year.''
Colangelo, 41, completely overhauled the Raptors roster last summer, adding nine new players to a team that had won just 27 games in 2005-06, and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
The revamped Raptors went on to win their first Atlantic Division title, matching a franchise record with 47 wins, and finished third in the Eastern Conference to earn home court advantage for the playoffs. Their season ended in the first round against New Jersey.
