British director Daryl Goodrich, who is famous for the successful promotional film for London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, had face-to-face communication with students of Communication University of China after the morning's press conference for "Vision Beijing" on Friday afternoon.
As part of the "Vision Beijing" film series, the 42-year old director is asked to make a five-minute film visualizing the modern transformation of Beijing into a modern humanistic metropolis as it prepares to host the 2008 Beijing Games.
He told the students that his approach to film-making is influenced by his design and sports backgrounds gained from creating program. He and his producer Caroline Rowland shared some of his works with students, including the short film, titled Inspiration, which impressed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. Inspiration was shot for just 400,000 pounds and told the story of how the Olympics could inspire children around the world.
"Daryl has crazy, ambitious, expensive and unpredictable ideas on every job we work on, " Caroline judged her partner, adding that his ideas benefit them a lot.
Daryl is now world- famous. However, his success thanks to Carline's help.
"I started the company eleven years ago because I want to be evolved in the creative process. But in the same time, I know that I cannot be the director. So for me it is useful to find ways to be evolved and contribute to be partner of Daryl, using my skills in business and negotiation,"Carline said.
They showed great ambitious of further development in film industry. They have signed a deal with Hollywood studio Paramount to make a feature-length movie based on his video that helped London win the bid for the 2012 Olympics.
"Later this year we will cooperate with HBO, the famous American TV channel. And we have another Olympic story with Paramount .We have other projects in the film industry."
Caroline and Daryl were honored to be able to promote Beijing, the capital of China. "I think it is a fantastic gift for us. I think we have the amazing opportunity to learn, to understand and be rich in the culture we will be working in."
Shooting of the film will begin at the end of May. All of the short films are slated to be screened in August at various venues, including on television, at the airport, on buses and advertising signs. 1 2 3
