And as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games draw nearer, overseas athletes and fans are beginning to wonder about accommodation.

However Beijing's top tourism bureau says not to worry as 800 star-rated hotels in the city will provide rooms during the sports extravaganza.

CRI Reporter Chen Xi has the details.

A Senior official with the Beijing Tourism Bureau says 800 hotels will accommodate about 600-thousand overseas athletes, officials and Olympics enthusiasts.

Deputy Director of the bureau, Xiong Yumei says the administration will reinforce efforts to promote service at nearly 4,000 local hotels for the upcoming Games.

"We estimate that the local hotels will virtually satisfy the accommodation of large number of audiences for the Olympic Games and tourists from home and abroad. Our focus is shifted to improve our service capability, especially that of holiday inns and non-star hotels.

Xiong Yumei says the hotel reservation system will still proceed this year and construction of Handicapped-access is underway. Meanwhile, training in Olympic knowledge, service and foreign languages is also being provided for hotel staff.
In addition, the criteria a hotel must meet to be classified as a 'green hotel' for the Olympics has been issued.

The China National Tourism Administration says 'green hotels' need to set up eco-friendly management systems and facilities and adopt technologies that conserve water and reduce energy consumption and waste generation.

The General Manager of Beijing International Hotel, an official hotel for the Olympic Games, Chen Xuhua says they have invested around 750 thousand dollars to improve the facilities and a number of energy-saving and environment-friendly measures have also been implemented well.

"Now we mainly concentrate on the environmental protection. Articles in the guest rooms are recommended for two-time use to reduce water consumption and pollution. Additionally, we also try to reduce the once-off necessities."

As for the price of the hotel rooms, the administration says the price for official hotels of the Games is already set, which is a little bit higher than normal, but much lower than that of previous Olympics.
