(Wen Jing's beginning solo) 

 

For her, each relationship has its own symbol. Her first relationship ended before it even started. For this, the symbol is an invitation to a date, for which she didn’t even show up.

Her second relationship is symbolized by Gao Le, a cheap cigarette brand that her and her partner both smoked. She always refers to that boyfriend as Gao Le. After living together for one poverty-stricken year, Gao Le's ex-girlfriend tries to commit suicide to gain his sympathy. Though her suicide attempt fails, the boyfriend leaves Wen Jing and goes back to his crazy ex.

Wen Jing then finds a job at a magazine as an entertainment journalist. As a movie maniac, she feels she has finally found a job perfectly suited for her. Before long, she meets her third boyfriend, a guy named Xiao Bai, who always wears a white shirt. He has this interesting habit of washing his shirts with sanitary smelling soap. The distinctive smell provides her with an impressive symbol for Xiao Bai.

On the last day of the world as predicted by Nostradamus, Wen Jing and Xiao Bai drink beer and wait for the world to crumble around them. Of course, destruction does not come, but the now drunk Xiao Bai pours his heart out about his concerns and struggles for the future. It is then that Wen Jing suddenly realizes his inner pains.

The world has not been destroyed but love can not last forever.

Wen Jing then decides to send Xiao Bai to Germany to study. Afraid of being dumped, she chooses to run off on her won. After he leaves for Germany, Wen Jing moves home, changes her phone number and finds another job. She never takes the chance to tell Xiao Bai how much she loves him.

 

Then, at a party, Wen Jing comes across a middle-aged man named Li Wen Qing (Pan Shiyi), a manager of an investment company in America. Wen Jing coincidentally gives him an Aspirin to soothe a headache, not fully realizing that after several failed relationships, Li is a depressed and puzzled character. The story then takes a dramatic turn as Li pursues Wen with all his charms. Though rejecting Li several times, due to great stress and her lonely single life, the journalist finally begins to waver.

To be an American middle-class housewife or to continue on her quest for true love, Wen Jing finally has to make a choice.
