The Return of the "Snow.Wolf.Lake" 2006
2005-12-05 18:09:12      CRI Exclusive
CRI Exclusive by Shen Min - Hong Kong's King of Songs, Jackie Cheung, will give his last performance of "Snow. Wolf. Lake" at Beijing's Capital Gymnasium on January 7 next year. Cheung says that although the show has established itself as enduring, it's time for him to say goodbye to the musical.

The theme song of the show is "Love Is Eternal," and that's how Beijing fans remember Jackie Cheung's musical "Snow Wolf Lake" which opened in Beijing during the Christmas holiday last year.

Since the musical debuted in 1997, 47 performances have been staged around the world and its final performance will be in Beijing in January. A press conference attended by Jackie Cheung was held in Beijing on Wednesday, to formally launch the sale of these last chance tickets.

Since the show first premiered four singers have performed in the leading female role of Litter Snow: Sandy Lam(林忆莲), Nadia Chan(陈松伶), Tang Can(汤灿) and Evonne Hsu(许慧欣). Cheung was asked to say which of these four he most preferred.

"They each have their own special characteristics, so it is unfair to say which one is better than the others. As the musical's producer and leading actor, I saw with my own eyes how the singers devoted themselves to the drama; especially how they had to come to grips with both the music and the plot in a very short time."

Jackie Cheung is both a veteran singer and actor, and he was also asked which of these roles he liked better.

"Fans who know me well should know that I am very much a singing addict. I will sing till I die. So I will keep on singing after the closing performance, and I hope that my fans will continue to support me. "Snow Wolf Lake" will forever be treasured in my heart and the musical will surely leave a deep impression on my singing career."

"I like both singing and acting. But I am especially steeped right up to my lips in singing! So if I have to make a choice, I will choose to be a singer. I've always wanted to know more about singing, while acting came next, and every person cannot grasp all they want to learn, so singing is definitely the first choice in my life"

Cheung went on to explain why they had chosen Beijing for the final performance of his musical.

"We chose Beijing to be the end, because Beijing was the first stop of our Would Tour in 2005, We wanted to come full circle on our tour and then make a full stop for our musical."

"The plot and the content of the musical remains unchanged, but we’ve revised some parts, so Beijing fans who saw the performances last December will find that the staging is much more mature, and I can promise fans they will not be disappointed. Although I feel unwilling to say goodbye to "Snow Wolf Lake", please trust me I will do my best on stage no matter what my mood."

Fans at the press conference were too excited to call on Cheung to treat them to a song, so finally to the strains of theme song, "The Ageless Legendary"(不老的传说), the conference drew to a close, leaving the fans screaming and unwilling to leave.
