Reporter: This is Zhao Pinging, a reporter from the English Service of China Radio International. I'm very glad to have this interview with you. First, could you please give a brief introduction of yourself? Cui: Hello. I'm Cui Yumin from Seoul National University. I've been learning Chinese for about ten years.
(From the left to the right: Gan Zechen, the reporter and Cui Yumin)
Reporter: We want to share your great Chinese learning experience with those people interested in Chinese but who can't get to China. What is the most difficult language point as far as you are concerned, and how did you overcome the difficulty?
Cui: I think Chinese is a language that's very difficult to learn. It's one of the most difficult languages in the world because every stroke in a Chinese character is very hard. I had many tutors when I was very young and when I was in school, I often turned to teachers for help. I think that one should work very hard when learning Chinese. They should do lots of reading, writing and listening. My mum bought me many books when I was a kid. They were all about Chinese stories, folks or legends, which to some extent made me become interested in Chinese.
Reporter: When did you first begin to learn Chinese?
Cui: Around ten years old. Reporter: Ten years for sharpening a sword, huh? Cui: That's true.
Reporter: Could you please give a more detailed suggestion about listening, speaking, reading and writing?
Cui: I believe that in order to speak well, watching TV is very important. Reporter: You mean watching TV series? Cui: Yes. But it's far from enough that you just watch it. You must also repeat what they say. Keep repeating. Many parents consider it bad to watch the TV. They think people should just read books when learning Chinese. Actually watching the TV does help a lot. You can also listen to music. After you finish listening to it, you should try to remember the complete lyrics and sing it over and over. You can learn how they pronounce Chinese correctly and then you can follow the singer's tone naturally.
