Y:  Okay, driver’s license in Chinese is:  驾照。
B:  jia4 zhao4,
Y:  jia4 means driving,
B:  jia4,
Y: zhao4 means license,
B:  zhao4,
Y: jia4 zhao4, 
B:  jia4 zhao4. So, Y, do you have a driver’s license?
Y: No…You can ask:  你有驾照吗?
B:  ni2 you3 jia4 zhao4 ma?
Y: ni2 means you,
B:  ni2,
Y: and you3 means have, 
B:  you3,
Y: jia4 zhao4, driver’s license,
B: jia4 zhao4,
Y: ni2 you3 jia4 zhao4 ma?
B: ni2 you3 jia4 zhao4 ma? Do you have a driver’s license?

Conversation 1
A:  你有驾照吗?
B: 有啊。我上个月才拿到的。

Y: B. 能帮我换个轮胎吗?
B: You mean you want me to help you change a wheel?
Y: Exactly… neng2 means could,
B: neng2,
Y:  bang1 wo3 means help me,
B: bang1 wo3,
Y:  huan4 means change,
B: huan4,
Y:  ge4 is the measure word for wheel, here it’s yi2 ge4, which means one, 
B:  ge4,
Y:  lun2 tai1 is wheel,
B: lun2 tai1,
Y: neng2 bang1 wo3 huan4 ge4 lun2 tai1 ma?
B: neng2 bang1 wo3 huan4 ge4 lun2 tai1 ma? Can you help me change the wheel?

Conversation 2
A:  能帮我换个轮胎吗?
B: 好的,没问题.

Y: Let’s review these lights in Chinese. Firstly, the indicator lights… that’s  转向灯 .
B: zhuan3 xiang4 deng1.   
Y: zhuan3 xiang4, means turn to another direction,
B: zhuan3 xiang4.
Y: deng1 is light,
B: deng1,
Y: zhuan3 xiang4 deng1.
B: zhuan3 xiang4 deng1.  And what about the tail-lights?
Y: we call those 尾灯。
B: wei3 deng1.
Y: wei3 means tail, or the rear end,
B: wei3,
Y: deng1 means light,
B: deng1,
Y: wei3 deng1.
B: wei3 deng1. tail-lights. So, the tail-lights aren’t working.
Y: You mean: 尾灯不亮了。
B: wei3 deng1 bu2 liang4 le
Y: liang4 literally means shine,
B:  liang4
Y: bu2 means not, bu2 liang4 means the light doesn’t shine, here it means the lights aren’t working… 
B:  bu2 liang4.
Y: wei3 deng1, tail lights, 
B: wei3 deng1,
Y: wei3 deng1 bu2 liang4 le
B: wei3 deng1 bu2 liang4 le.  the tail-lights aren’t working.

Conversation 3
A: 灯好像不亮了。
B: 哪个灯?
A: 是尾灯。尾灯不亮了。

B: Put your seat belt on Y, we’re going for a spin.
Y: Tell me in Chinese B. 系好安全带。.
B:  ji4 hao3 an1 quan2 dai4.
Y: ji4 hao3  means buckle up,
B: ji4 hao3,
Y: an1 quan2 dai4. seat belt,
B: an1 quan2 dai4, 
Y:  ji4 hao3 an1 quan2 dai4.
B: ji4 hao3 an1 quan2 dai4. put on your seat belt,

Conversation 4
A: 系好安全带。咱们该走了。
B: 好了,走吧。

B: Hey where are we off to anyway Y?
Y: I’d like to see the ocean, how about Beidaihe?
B: You’re on. But what’s our question before we go?
