Plot summary:

It’s a story about an annual holiday gathering of the Stone family.  Their eldest son brings his uptight girlfriend home for the Christmas holiday, with plans of proposing.

Overwhelmed by the hostile reception, she begs her sister to join her for emotional support, triggering further complications.

Amy is talking all about Meredith
A: I hate her.
K: Generosity, generosity of spirit,  要宽容一点
S: and you’re gonna get me in trouble.
P: I thought no one had even met the girl.
A: no, I was down in New York in October.
K: that’s right, the young man, how’s that going?
S: so you had a dinner with them?
A: so she is a total phony. She’s completely uptight. She dragged us to this freaking stiff restaurant, she talked the entire time. I mean… she’s got this incredibly grotesque throat-clearing tic. It’s like… it’s like she’s digging for clams
S: Amy was just telling us all about Meredith. She’s a throat-clearer…
K: Sybil, why do you encourage her?
P: Well, Amy never likes anyone.
T: that took years. 
Amy is very straightforward---- “I hate her.”
