Thought for Today:

We may go to the moon, but that's not very far. The greatest distance we have to cover still lies within us.

Today's Highlight in History:

1849: Austrian composer Johann Strauss I died on September 25th at the age of 45. He was known particularly for his waltzes and for popularizing it alongside Josef Lanner thereby (without intention) setting the foundations for his sons to carry on his musical dynasty. His most famous piece, however, is probably the Radetzky March whereas his most famous waltz is probably the Lorelei Rhine Kl?nge op. 154.

1881: Lu Xun, pen name of Zhou Shuren, was born on September 25th.He was considered the most influential Chinese writer of the 20th century and is seen as the founder of modern baihua or vernacular Chinese literature. His social thought, which substantially criticized traditional cultural values, was also highly influential in 20th century Chinese history, in particular, to the May Fourth Movement and the strains of thought it gave rise to, which in turn had a great impact on the Chinese communist movement and the rise of the People's Republic of China. He was also a noted translator and helped introduce Chinese to modern international literature.

2005:Spanish Formula One racing driver Fernando Alonso won the World Driver's Championship title at the age of 24 years and 59 days on September 25th, thus breaking Emerson Fittipaldi's record of being the youngest F1 champion, and ending Michael Schumacher's run of five consecutive championships.
