1916: American novelist and short-story writer Jack London was born on January 12. His vigorous stories of men and animals against the environment, and survival against hardships were drawn mainly from his own experience. He is famous for The Call of the Wild, The Son of the Wolf, The Sea-Wolf etc.
1976: British crime fiction writer Dame Agatha Christie died on January 12 at the age of 86. From the 1920s until the 1970s, she was the world's most popular mystery author, reportedly selling more than one billion books worldwide. Her famous books include Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile etc.
