Indonesia rushed tents, food and emergency aid to the flood-ravaged areas of Sumatra island on Monday.
Days of heavy rains have triggered heavy flooding.
Local TV reports say helicopters are distributing the relief materials because the waters have washed away roads and bridges in the worst-hit area in the eastern Aceh province.
Locals were seen clambering towards a helicopter as it delivered supplies.
Officials say the death tool is now at least 87, with a dozen more people reported missing.
The floods have forced thousands of people to flee their homes.
The United Nations says it will provide an initial two million US dollars in emergency relief to the region.
Aceh was the region worst hit by the 2004 Asian tsunami.
