Hearing Chen Ping's story, some people admire him for his diligence, but others take a different view. Some say it's a waste of time and a lack of respect to one's life if someone sticks to one thing for a long time when it is so hard to achieve.
However, a Kunming resident, Wei Qun, thinks it's worthwhile to pursue a spiritual goal like Chen Ping's.
"It's not worth it in terms of economic benefit. But spiritually, it's worthwhile. People do not only live for money. There are much more to life. To rise to one's challenge and brave difficulties, it is very satisfying after realizing your dreams."
Regardless of how others feel about him, Chen Ping has started his new life as a college student. He says he does not expect to change his life completely, but he is happy now that his dream has come true.
Chen Ping says he can still go back in his small hometown after graduation. If he can not find a job, he will continue to be a pedicab driver. Thank you, Peichun, for this inspiring personality. Life in China will be back in a moment.
Kazakhs in Xinjiang in western China are known as the people on horseback. The Kazakhs on the grassland tend to call their respectable heroes "eagles." Now, stories of an eagle are chanted in the town of Areletuobie in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. The eagle in question is Asihaer, a 30-something policeman. Today, we will follow our reporter Yi Nan to visit this "brave eagle on the grassland," Asihaer.
Early this year, the higher people's court in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region handed down a ruling on the biggest livestock larceny that took place in Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture. A total of 123 criminals who committed nearly 400 larcenies were jailed. The local residents all praised justice being served and sung of the hero, Asihaer, who made remarkable contributions to bring the criminals to justice.
Asihaer Jahefu is the chief officer of a local police station . Since he graduated from college, Asihaer has worked as a police officer for eight years. During the past eight years, Asihaer has never forgotten his responsibility to safeguard his fellow countrymen .
In March 2004, a criminal fled into the deep snowy mountains after committing murder. Risking his own life, Asihaer caught the escapee after a an arduous chase. Asihaer recounts the story.
"Our responsibility is to crack the case and bring the criminals to justice. Huge pressure was put on the officers and general policemen. My colleagues and I pursued him in the dangerous conditions. It was avalanche season, with the snow and ice beginning to melt. After seven days and nights, we managed to crack the case. On that day, we celebrated."
In July 2004, Asihaer was appointed the head of his police station. At that time, the town was restless. Gang fights, gambling and thefts often occurred. Shopkeepers could never leave their businesses and some herdsmen had to sleep with the livestock in their barns.
To improve the situation, Asihaer lead his peers to step up patrols and sent out to the locals some 3,000 cards bearing his own phone number and the number of the police station . He paid a visit to every household and gathered comprehensive information on the herdsmen scattered in mountains by horseback.
As a result of the hard work by Asihaer and his colleagues, the town of Areletuobie became safer and safer.. The number of criminal cases dropped dramatically. A local farmer says he is quite happy with the situation right now.
"The residents of Areletuobie feel much safer these days since Asihaer and his colleagues stepped up public security efforts in this small town. We can see his actions were worth it."
