Internet users in China may soon get a taste of the "Real World" courtesy of MTV. Chinese search company Baidu and Viacom's MTV unit on Tuesday signed a deal to enter into a content and advertising alliance.
President of MTV International Bill Roedy was on hand to announce the partnership at a press conference in Beijing.
"The relentless search for our Internet partner in China is now complete. Today, we have found our dream partner in Baidu. Here is to the beginning of a long, successful relationship."
Baidu's chief financial officer, Shawn Wang, echoed the comments, and further pledged to deliver better services to customers.
"The search for partner is over. It's not a problem. But the search with your full concurrence is, I'm confident, the search for best quality content, the best entertainment in digital format, and have that delivered to Chinese audience, that search is only starting."
The alliance will bring 15,000 hours of MTV video content to China's Internet users through Baidu's 'MTV Zone'. Content will include music videos, MTV reality shows, locally produced MTV shows, as well as programming from Nickelodeon – another Viacom subsidiary.
Most of the video content will also be available for free download, in addition to online use.
