Jin Yue from CCTV's art centre has been appointed Head Director for the 2007 China Central Television Spring festival Evening Gala.

One of China's most popular annual television events, the Evening Gala has become a Spring Festival tradition for millions of Chinese families.

Jin Yue has been taking part in the show for five times, and this is the second time for him to be the head director.

He says he wants the 2007 show to focus on China's past and present.

"It should be an outstanding showcase for traditional, rich Chinese culture, as well as a window that demonstrates China's vitality during the current period of fast-paced progress. I hope the gala refreshes our audience.”

Faced with growing public demand to change the format of the show and diversify its line up, Jin Yue said he will seek public feedback when putting this year's show together.

"We will set up a channel to communicate with the audience for fresh ideas and feedbacks about the design. It's difficult to cater to all tastes, but I believe everyone has the same affinity for the festival, so we will work on that basis."
