The Leader of Lebanon's Free Patriotic Movement opposition party, Michel Aoun, said he is opposed to disarm Hezbollah by force.
In an interview with Alarabiya Television, Aoun said that forcing Hezbollah to disarm would only escalate the conflict.
"If the international community disarms Hezbollah by force, the clash, which is currently between Israel and Hezbollah, will become the conflict between Hezbollah and the international society, aggravating the situation.'
Aoun said a ceasefire-fire will only be achieved by addressing the primary source of the conflict.
This is the first time for Lebanon's current opposition leader to expound explicitly his opinion since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah broke out three weeks ago. Michel Aoun served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon in 1990s.
