China's Ministry of Culture has developed a management service system for the nation's karaoke industry.
An official with the ministry, Liang Gang, says this is an effort to protect the intellectual property rights and provide a healthy environment for the industry.

"The establishment of such a system will help achieve a win-win situation for the industry. The market will be standardized and copyrights better protected."
Under such a system, copyright owners will be paid corresponding fee accroding to the times the music piece having been played.
Currently, the system has been put under trial in three cities: Zhengzhou, Qingdao and Wuhan.
Originated in Japan over two decades ago, karaoke was introduced to China in late 1980s. But with the fast developemnt of the industry, it also faces problems regarding the issue of copyrights.
