The Indonesian government was criticized on Tuesday that it did not make alarm before the earthquake and tsunami occurred on Monday, according to a statement made by vice president Jusuf Kalla after a cabinet meeting on the disaster.
Facing with the criticism of no working of the tsunami early warning system, the Indonesia government said that it had not set up tsunami early warning system in the southern sea off Java island.
During the cabinet meeting, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered to boost the tsunami warning system in the country.
Meanwhile, the death toll continues to rise. So far, more than 400 people were reported killed and more than 600 injured in the disaster.
Grief-stricken Hamed, 40, lost his wife and a 4-year-old son. His daughter and an elder son survived with him.
"I have half of my family left. Now just pick up the pieces and move on."
Indonesia is on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
