South Korea's foreign minister arrived in Beijing on Monday to seek China's cooperation in halting North Korea's apparent steps toward test-launching a long-range missile.
Ban Ki-moon's two-day trip comes at the invitation of his Chinese foreign minister, Li Zhaoxing.
"I'm looking forward to having good discussions with my counterpart Li Zhaoxing on all matters pertaining to Korea and China, including the early resumption of six-party talks as well as North Korea's attempt to test fire a long-range missile.”
Ban Ki-moon added that China had been playing "a very constructive role in the maintenance of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula".
China has hosted several rounds of international talks on North Korea's nuclear programme. However these have been stalled since November due to a North Korean boycott over financial restrictions imposed by the United States.
North Korea's reported preparations for the launch of a long-range missile have caused widespread international concern.
