The annual “China-Europe Senior Public Management Forum” with the theme of “promoting innovation in public administration” has opened in Beijing on Tuesday. A total of 300 government officials and scholars from 15 countries will attend the three-day forum. CRI’s Zhou Yun reports.

Reporter:

The event is the biggest cooperation project in the government administration field between China and the European Union.

It will address topics such as how the government can reform its functions to improve social development.

Serge Abou, the head of the Delegation of the European Commission, says the forum involves many topics of common concern.

“The topics that we will be discussing during this edition of the forum are as diverse and complex as they are important, including the modernization of public administration, and innovation of the government.”

Public administration means governmental organizations use public power to manage public affairs.

Chinese State Councilor Hua Jianmin has said at the opening ceremony that though different countries have different social systems and cultural backgrounds, it is their governments' common task to promote innovation in public administration. So it is quite important for the Chinese government to draw on the experience of European Union countries.

“The Chinese government highly values public management - we can share knowledge and experience with EU countries to develop our management methods, all aiming to improve administrative efficiency.”

With China's further reform and opening up, the government's public administration functions, system, and methods are undergoing profound changes.

Hua Jianmin added that nowadays the Chinese government pays more attention to providing public services, implementing active employment policies, and perfecting the social relief system.
