U S President George W. Bush has called on the international community to offer more help in Iraq’s post-war reconstruction.
Bush notes that countries around the world have pledged 13 billion US dollars to reconstruction efforts in Iraq, and that he expects them to honor their commitments.
His comments come on the first of two days of meetings of top security officials at Camp David, which plan to map out future US involvement in Iraq now that a new government has been installed.
He has set no date for troop withdrawals or reductions, saying only that the new government needs more time to wrest control of the security situation.
"Whatever we do will be based upon the conditions on the ground. And whatever we do will be toward a strategy of victory. And so, this is a process of getting to know the, understand the Iraqi capabilities, particularly the command and control structure and what we need to do to help them achieve victory."
There are currently about 130,000 US troops on the ground in Iraq.
