Sales of low-emission vehicles have been climbing recently, with the first five months of this year witnessing a sharp increase, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers - or CAAM.
The main reason lies with the continuing high price of oil.
Sales of sedans in China continue to soar, as the first priority of buyers is now to ensure that their new vehicle has low emissions, thus consuming less gasoline.
Industry experts say 25 new low-emission vehicles will hit the market this year.
"Customers require better quality low emission cars. And manufacturers need to improve workmanship in order to win over this market."
Beijing's second-hand car market has also seen a similar trend, as the sale of low emission cars continue to rise with a monthly sales volume of 7,000 to 8,000 units.
Meanwhile, sales of high-emission vehicles such as SUVs have fallen by 30 per cent.
According to figures released by CAAM, China's vehicle sales have topped 1.7 million units - an annual growth of over 36 percent.
China has 24 cars for every 1,000 people, compared with the international average of 120.
